A Message to New Members...
The Blessed Sacrament Ushers
Society welcomes new members. Any male, age 18 and above, willing to support the aims of the Society, can join.
Attend one of our general meetings to learn more, then at the next meeting you can officially join.
If you are not familiar with the overall purpose
and function of the Society, we would like to take this opportunity to introduce
our organization and to invite you to learn more about us. We welcome you to join us at
our monthly meetings which are held every 3rd Thursday of each month at the
field house at 8:00 p.m.. Following every meeting members enjoy good
fellowship and food/beverages. If you have any questions please feel free
to contact any board member.
We’re sure you have observed the Ushers in their traditional role, however the
objectives of the Society go far beyond this role. In addition to providing
Ushers for services held at Blessed Sacrament, the Society aids the Church and
School in athletic activities, and promotes the
spiritual, moral, and physical well being of the members of the Society.
Following is a list of responsibilities and activities of the Society:
Providing Ushers at Weekend Masses: 5:15 p.m. Saturday evening, 7:30 a.m., 9:00
a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Fund Raisers:
Various fund raisers
account for half of the Society’s annual income. (Football Lottery, Cash
Bonanza and New Year’s Eve Party open to the public). Without fund raisers and
volunteers who work to make the events successful the Society would not be able
to fulfill their obligation to the Church , School and membership.
Contributions and Donations:
The Society contributes
to the Msgr. Connelly Educational Endowment Fund - which provides tuition aid to
needy students at Blessed Sacrament School. In addition, the Society contributes
funds to the Parish for capital expenditures and certain other recurring
expenses.
Bixby Field and Field House:
The football field and
field house are operated and maintained by the Society. The second floor of the
field house is used for Usher meetings and rented our to members of our Society.
There are two covered bocce courts located next to the field house and are used
for summer bocce leagues.
Parish Activities:
Members of the Society
assist with many activities sponsored by the Parish including Special Masses and
Parish Day. The Society also has representatives on two important organizations
– Parish Council and School Board.
