Rules Specific For Men’s Blessed Sacrament Bocce Leagues

Monday & Thursday Evenings

The Monday and Thursday evening Men’s Bocce Leagues endorses use of the following rules as a guideline for the conduct of play.

·        Coin toss determines pallina possession and color of balls to start game.  Team who wins previous game gets pallina to start next game.

·        If a team only has three players, they may use a substitute.  If a regular team member arrives during a match, that player must replace the substitute immediately.  If a substitute is not available, the team can only throw one ball per player: no player may throw more than one ball per frame.  NOTE: the substitute rule is in effect during the regular season only: no substitutes are allowed in playoffs.

·        Starting team has one shot to place pallina between the short and far lines.  If unsuccessful, opposing team gets one shot to place pallina in area as noted above.  Rotation continues until pallina is successfully placed between the short and far lines.

·        At the end of a frame, in case of a tie between opposite colors, the next single closest color ball wins one point.

·        There will be no measurements if only one team still has one or more balls to play.

·        If any ball touches a person or object outside of the court, that ball is removed off the court.

·        If the pallina comes back across the centerline or leaves the court during play, the frame is dead.  The team opposite the one that caused the infraction gets possession of the pallina.

·        Any player in the game that has not yet thrown a ball cannot cross the half-court line.  Violations will result in immediate disqualification of that person’s ball for that frame.

·        Psychological interference will not be tolerated. Players must remain still during a throw and not disturb a thrower in any manner. Proper sportsmanship should always be present.

·        Proper footwear must be worn.  No boots - preferably sneakers with little traction.

·        We understand cell phones are necessary.  However, please exercise proper etiquette for their use while you are playing.

·        All games are subject to time restrictions. Both captains will agree upon a “down and back” call at 10 minutes before the scheduled end of play. Please make an effort not to cause excessive delays.
