History

Necrology Committee was established informally in the 1970’s under Msgr.Connelly, then formalized in the 1980’s under Msgr. Nash.  

 Committee Responsibilities

Arranges for the recitation of the Rosary for a deceased Usher or a deceased member of an Usher’s immediate family (Father, Mother, wife or child).  All Usher's are encouraged to attend and participate.

The Committee Chairman:

1. Checks the daily newspaper obituaries

2. Contacts Msgr. Magraw and the family for approval and designated time and place of the Rosary recitation.

3. Notifies funeral home to request that Rosary service information be included in the newspaper obituary or death notice.

4. Notifies Necrology callers with Rosary service information to be passed on to Usher’s society members by phone.

Usher's Society Members are then contacted by the Necrology Committee.

In the Event of the death of an Usher:

Arrangements are made by the Chairman for an Honor Guard at funeral Mass for the deceased Usher.

A donation of $25.00 from the Usher’s Society is made in memory of deceased Usher to the Msgr.Connelly Educational Endowment Fund .

Other Necrology Committee Activities:

Sympathy cards are sent to an Usher's family following death of his sister or brother.

“Get Well” cards are sent to an Usher recuperating from serious illness.
